We’re happy to discuss sleep apnea symptoms during your next dental exam. If loud snoring is keeping you and your bed partner awake, or if you’re experiencing other symptoms, call us today at 281-367-5900.
We’ll assess your condition with some sleep apnea tests, including:
The tests will help us determine if you have obstructive sleep apnea, a condition characterized by frequent brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. The condition is caused when your tongue or other soft tissue blocks your airway.
If necessary, we’ll help you obtain a formal sleep apnea diagnosis from a medical doctor and will work with the doctor to coordinate your treatment. If it seems you have a more severe form of obstructive sleep apnea, we’ll refer you to local sleep expert Dr. Katherine Phillips.
We like to use a sleep apnea appliance called a Thornton Adjustable Positioner (TAP). It’s one of the most widely used sleep apnea devices – and understandably so:

Excellent interaction with everybody from receptionist thru my entire visit. Very clean atmosphere. They took time to answer my questions and explain their findings. Would highly recommend this practice to anyone.
Dr Chai & staff are terrific!
I highly recommend Smiles by Dr. Chai. Not only is she a great dentist that takes time with her patients but, her entire team are AWESOME!! Always very welcoming, thorough, and takes the time to answer any questions.
Due to a work injury, it was necessary for me to have a root canal as well as a crown on two of my front teeth. I was very concerned that the crowns would not match my original teeth. Dr. Chai walked me through the procedure and made me feel comfortable. When it was all done, I was amazed and happy with the outcome. My new teeth look great! Dr. Chai and her staff are very professional and kind. I highly recommend Dr. Chai for all your dental needs.
Dr. Chai is so great! I’ve been looking for a great dentist who is honest and capable. Dr. Chai is all of this and more. I am so glad she worked out for me. I used to see Dr. Burgess and was nervous when Dr. Chai took over but now I’m glad she is here to stay. I wish Dr. Burgess well but I am so glad Dr. Chai took over for him. The facility is clean and staff have always been very friendly. The visits are always painless and my kids survive them every time. Thank you!
Dr. Chai and her staff are all very friendly and professional! On all of my visits here I feel very comfortable and as though I am in very capable hands whether it be a regular cleaning or a more involved procedure.
I have dreaded going to the dentist for a very long time. I put it off for far to long. When I finally broke down and went, they made it so completely comfortable. The whole office was beyond kind. Thank you! ❤️
Had a wonderful experience here with Dr.Chai. She was extremely kind, gentle and professional in her approach and patiently walked me through all the details of the procedure. Perfect for someone like me who is quite nervous about going to the dentist. She clearly explained what equipment she was using and what to expect at every step of the way during the procedure to make me feel comfortable and at ease which I truly appreciate. Also, the office is fantastic with state of the art equipment. Overall, the service was exceptional! I had a great experience with Dr.Chai and would highly recommend!
Staff is friendly, courteous, patient, and helpful. Overall visit was great. Would definitely recommend they’re services.
Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common type of sleep apnea. It occurs when your tongue and other soft tissues in the back of your throat temporarily block your airway during sleep. They relax enough to cut off your air supply and cause you to quit breathing. You’ll wake up long enough to take a few normal breaths before you fall back asleep. This cycle can repeat itself dozens of times an hour.
Not only will sleep apnea disrupt your sleep to the point that you feel fatigued and are unable to concentrate during the day, but this condition has also been linked to several other serious health problems. Sleep apnea can play a role in high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and depression. Treating your sleep apnea now will improve your quality of life and potentially help you live longer.
CPAP therapy is often the first recommended treatment for sleep apnea. While CPAP is effective, many people have trouble getting used to having air blown through their mouth and nose. A good alternative treatment option is a custom-fit sleep appliance. It will fit comfortably in your mouth while you sleep, gently moving your lower jaw forward to keep your air passages open.
